Number 27: Snow white with a cross on top of Germany
The top of Germany is located in the lower Alps on Zugspitze mountain, whose peak is shared by Germany and Austria. At 2960 metres (9710 feet) above sea level, the actual summit of Zugspitze is marked by a cross, located on the German (Bavarian) side. Autumn marks an obvious transition from summer hiking to winter skiing in the Alps, and October brought an early winter dump with clear conditions on the other side. The ambient air temperature on this October morning was -12C/10F, but a decidedly chillier -20C/-4F with the breeze. More details about the photo here.
I made the photo above on 9 October 2011. This post appears on Fotoeins Wide at fotowide.wordpress.com.
