Prague

Number 24: Vánoční trhy Praha | Prague Christmas markets

Vanocni trhy, Praha, Christmas market, Old Town Square, Prague, Czech Republic

“Vánoční trhy Praha” or the Prague Christmas markets are held in various locations throughout the city, including Old Town Square. As expected, December weather can turn cold with the formation of icicles. Here, icicles, light fixtures, and a “starred filter” combine for a bright sparkly photograph. The sign behind the ice and lights is for a stand selling “Palačinky” or thin pancakes. In the background at right in soft out-of-focus light appears one of the towers for the Church of our Lady Before Týn. I wrote about Prague’s Christmas markets at Old Town Square here and here.

I made the photo on 4 December 2010. This post appears on Fotoeins WIDE at fotowide.wordpress.com.

Number 14: Prague’s autumn morning glow

Dawn, autumn, Museum Kampa, Kampa, Petrin hill, Prague

There’s a reason why it’s called “the golden hour”, the time after sunrise when early-morning light covers everything in a warm glow. Looking up the sunrise time for Prague in early October, I arrived at Charles Bridge in time for the morning “fireworks”, as Petřín hill already dressed with leaves’ changing colours would slowly light up in the morning fire. Few were on the bridge at 730am; more trickled in over time, and by 9, the bridge was full of people. I wrote about “The colours of fall in Prague” in a post here.

I made the photo above on 7 October 2009. This post appears on Fotoeins Wide at fotowide.wordpress.com.

Number 5: Praha from Letna

Vltava river from Letna, Praha, Prague, Czech Republic

From Letenské sady (Letna gardens) on the hill just north from the Old Town, you can view most of Prague at a glance: back down the hill into the Old Town, New Town, and Vinohrady; across the bridges over the Vltava river to the Little Quarter, Smíchov, and Petřín hill. As one of my favourite places in the world, I’ve highlighted the capital city of the Czech Republic before as “love story number 1” and as part of my list of 5 places to view this city at night.

I made the photo above on 5 December 2008. This post appears on Fotoeins Wide at fotowide.wordpress.com.
